I assume I'm not the only Nectar fan eagerly awaiting word on when and where (and, yikes, if) Lorin is playing shows at Burning Man this year.....

...unless I totally missed a thread on this topic already.

Anyone know? Lo? You gonna rock the Playa as you always have?

<hope hope>

              Lorin,

I'll miss seeing your sets out there if you don't come, but I understand your mixed feelings. I first saw you play and first heard your music out there a few years back and have been loving it ever since. BM has turned me on to a ton of good music from genres I may not have explored without being there. BM is a lot of things to a lot of people, and over the years of going I have definitely run the gambit on feelings about it. In an effort not to ramble too much... I hope to see you out there playing beats, but if not enjoy your time where ever you may be during that week.

good morning and thanks for all that you do!
there is no doubt about the mixed feelings for bman..and yet, it is the big community get together. for many of us that work on art ..(see our sapphire portal again this year) and live out in the nether parts of the countries..it is the big gathering, the come together of energies and creativities. more so for us bass freaks that the rest of the year get only a night or so at a time!
hope that you make it to help keep the fires of higher consciousness, love, the positive message, and bass alive!!!
(ps..i have two tickets if you need them...our pleasure)
              here's hoping from taos!!
              peace and love.

As a bassnympho, I have been pleasured several times already this year, and it looks like an extensive bassnectar visit to the southeast this fall will further satisfy my needs. I'm not gonna miss ya if you don't play the playa, but if you decide to participate in BM 2008, a great place to play would be The Philadelphia Experiment.

Please, anyone, go to BM (or do anything else for that matter) because YOU WANT to be there. In my personal experience, I have found that doing something out of obligation, for someone else's needs and not my own, seldom turns out well. Jussayin'.
              • You mean you're not sure you're feeling Uncle Larry's incarnation of The American Dream, where they continue to pretend music is not art, but instead celebrate big cars and corporate sponsorship and choose to become less than transparent with the accounting (last I checked, they left the numbers off the 2007 after-burn report)....?

I can sympathize. Taking this year off, and enjoying the HELL out of spending two years working on 2009 ridiculousness. Already workin' on my own art theme, and designing structures and installations that will be all kinds of fun to bring out to the playa.

But playing devil's advocate (such a fun job), it's worth noting that this year will be magical if only for all the absences. Makes for a lot of question marks, makes for a lot of things that are new and unusual and completely unlike burns in the past. If you do go, I encourage you to go for the full week, and not just the half-week/part-time thang.
                • Just like burn events, the American Dream is what YOU make it. My American Dream is to build a straw bale house on a few acres of land and have a few cows and a garden and maybe a horse. not to live in a McMansion and work for the man and drive a big car.

My American Dream is that the people will wake up and replace our screwed up government, but America is not just the government. At least we live in a country that allows us to have something like Burning Man where we can express ourselves and our distaste for the current paradigm.

To not go to Burning Man because of the theme to me just means that you haven't really done enough reflecting to decide what that dream means to you. I can't say why they chose the theme they did, but maybe it was to force us to think about community building and the future of our nation. How can we take the things we've learned at the big party in the desert and apply them to the real world? things like BWBs...

Are we not creating our own dream for America with these events?? Are we not creating the new paradigm?? Sure its getting bigger, but that just means more people are waking up. Its spreading into regional events that attract even more new people. We are infiltrating! Its working! IMHO, regionals are where its at these days anyway...I still like to go to the Nevada regional though because I like to see what people are creating in other parts of the world and break out of my little comfort zone.

*disclaimer* None of this was directly aimed at Lorin or anyone in particular, but at the general complaint regarding the theme.

at Lorin...I hope you do decide to play out there this year :) I love your sets as much as the next Bassnympho!

                  That's my opinion...flame away :)
