While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping, you lost something very basic, precious,
essential to your identity, your health, your freedom, liberty, your
future, and the future of those around you. And you didn’t even know it.
Neither did i.
The Bill of Rights is something I learned about when I had buck teeth and
a bowl cut.
I wore whatever clothes my mom told me to wear, and I was most concerned
about what cartoons I would get to watch that afternoon, maybe stopping to
complain that I didn’t get any sugar cereals or candy bars like the other
kids. I was a little upstart, but I didn’t have many battles to fight, or
to win.
I can honestly say I do not know the Bill of Rights word for word (sad,
right? …but typical)..i know it says something about me having the
irrevocable RIGHTS to certain things like life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness. Unless I am mistaken that includes freedom of speech, freedom
of religion & thought, right to a fair and speedy trial. Aw, fuck it, im
just going to look it up. Lets see…., ok. I googled it, and you can read
it here:
usinfo.state.gov/usa/infou...illeng.htm
but yeah, all kinds of nice things… I am protected against illegal search
and seizure, essentially it is a power balance to ensure that nobody like
Bu$h or Cheney or Nixon comes along and tries to monkey around with your
rights behind your back.
Well now it seems George W. Bu$h, who I now feel obligated to refer to
with utmost respect and due adoration, as His Eternal Highness and
All-Good King (HEHAGK for short, all due respect, sir) has passed some
‘executive orders’ (aka he says it, so it is now just law, despite the
fact that maybe it breaks another law, or nullifies the constitution, or
cripples the bill of rights, or endangers your life or freedom….not that
there is anything wrong with that, your Holiness) and one of them quite
recently.

essentially it removes your freedom of speech or freedom expression
and makes it illegal and SEVERELY PUNISHABLE to speak out against the War
on Iraq. It seems to be setting things up quite nicely for martial law to
be exacted at a moments notice.
Here is a good lay(wo)man’s summary:
www.globalresearch.ca/index.php
so yeah, while you were sleeping, or in line to buy that new iPhone, or
trampling people to be one of the first 8.5 million people to buy the new
Harry Potter book, or tilting your ballcap slightly sideways, or adjusting
your shades, or fixing that nice costume you got on, or making art, or
praying for the world, or passing along links, or blogging, ... while i
was DJing somewhere, concerned with phat basslines dropping, or while I
was on my first week of vacation in 6 months, swimming in a river, or
playing on my computer, or while you were kissing your girlfriend, or
talking funny gossip, or chatting away at some fabulous party, planning
your trip to Burningman, …all good things. While this was happening, your
rights were being attacked, and NOW they are gone.
And you didn’t hear about it, and the press is not reporting about it.
Have a gander at the front pages of any of the mainstream newspapers over
the past week. Lots of crucial stuff huh? Like that new soccer player who
moved here from London. Oh boy! Or maybe that story about Tammy Faye
whoever – wife of Evangelisto Corrupto, who died and was remembered. Or
maybe a puff piece on Hillary Clinton. Or something stupid about HEHAGK’s
strategy needing more time in Iraq…or so-and-so who murdered his white
wife, or what’s-her-name who got abducted and caught on tape but its
really interesting because her dad was an ex-marine and NASCAR driver, or
something.
Anyhow, while HEHAGK was looking out for our safety and passing this new
exuctive order to silence dissenters of his War… I didn’t hear about it.
Not much any way. And when I thought about it, I shivered at how little
there was to do about it.
Well, I texted some friends and got some links, did a wee bit of
research, went to us.gov and found my representatives, senators,
congresspeople… wrote emails and called, asked for some answers… like:
“hey why did I just loose valuable civil rights under your watch? And why
have I not heard anything about it. I am scared now, because I understand
it is officially illegal for me to voice my opinions.”
Barbara Boxer’s office said that she has not yet prepared a statement, and
that was supposed to end the conversation or something. I was like… “ahh
buddy, no. I am asking WHY she has not submitted a statement. AT LEAST.”
Like why is Pelosi not up in arms??!
If I was the head of the Democrats, some supposed liberal from San Fran,
you know what I would do.
I would go on Larry King Live. I would kick and scream until I got on. Now
that it is ILLEGAL to speak out against the war, now that they can seize
my assets, arrest me without reason or notification or lawyer, and hold me
indefinitely as an enemy combatant, I would speak VERY carefully on the
air about HEHAGK and his plan, giving him all due respect and praise,
careful not to critique him, but wanting to merely INFORM my constituents
that new laws are now in place. Laws that have been in place since back
when they had bowl cuts, and pegged their trousers, and wanted to be an
astronaut – gone. It is proper to at least inform (warn) them, isn’t it?
Wouldn’t that be polite of Pelosi to have warned us of this?
There is no harm in that, right?
But she hasn’t. If I was her, I would get my ass on the news,
I would look straight in the camera and ask the viewers to put down their
Bud Lights and Starbucks and iPhones for 3 minutes and to understand that
His Utmost Holy and Never-Wrong King of All Anything, GWBu$h, has decreed
a new decree. Hear Ye, Hear Ye.
HEHAGK has decided that because of the utmost and most extreme threat of
war, in such a dark and desperate time…wait, can you please set your
iPhone down? Im still talking. Yes where was i…o yeah, so in this most
imminent and DEEPLY threatening moment of despair in such a grievous war,
since all of our bodies are within seconds of extreme attack from
terrorism, HEHAGK decided to suspend some of our rights (like the right to
criticize him, and why shouldn’t he, because as such a crucial moment, a
critique might slow down his ability to protect us and stifle his ability
to fight terrorism) and as your representative and head of congress, I
just wanted to come on here (thank you Larry) and let you know, so that
you are not so foolish as to speak out against this. Do Not Fear. He only
did it to protect you, so you would LEAVE HIM ALONE and let him do his job
defending this wonderful country. You should trust him, because HE is the
Decider, right? Even though HEHAGK has kind of a bad track record in his
administration, with a long list of deceit and many instances of officials
who he has appointed have been proven guilty or HEINOUSLY unqualified to
do their job (DeLay, Foley, Brownie, Scooter Libby, Gonzales, Scalia all
that stuff…)… yes despite the fact that there is really no exact reason
for us to trust him because he has broken our trust at almost every chance
he gets, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with trusting him another time.
Let’s all just assume he doesn’t know this is unconstitutional. That’s
right, I am asking you, viewer, to ignore the fact that your rights have
just been violated and removed, because I am assuming HEHAGK didn’t know
what he was doing. It was an honest mistake, and I just wanted to come on
here, live on CNN TV, and make sure that the press was up to speed on the
fact that you cannot critique the Iraq War now without being indefinitely
detained in secret prisons, having your assets frozen, or worse.
That is all.”
Imagine if she did that.
Or if ANYONE did that, or if EVERYONE did that… and preferably much more
eleoquently than i. Bassnectar on CNN? Not gonna happen. And probably for
good reason, because I cannot even TYPE this shit very well, much less
speak it. I don’t wear that costume you have to wear to let people know
you are official and trustworthy…what is it again? A suit and tie?
Because I am not an elected official. I am a musician, an artist. I am
doing my best here, but I am not the ideal person for the job. But I
cannot stand by as His Holiness and Utmost Flawless Wonderful Kind and God
Bu$h prepares to declare martial law and sets that up systematically under
the strategy of neo-conservatives who brought you stolen elections, the
war in iraq, 911, Murdoch-news like FOX, and have essentially turned what
might have been a nice environment for raising kids and families, and
bettering our country and our neighbor’s countries, and caring for the
environment and enjoying sunshine and music….godamn difficult.

Wed, July 25, 2007 - 7:40 AMgosh I was thinking the same thing a couple of days ago. I was wondering how people on this particular message board would barely respond to the post I made about it. It was shadowed by upcoming shows and cool t-shirts. not trying to step on toes here or anything, but this all really upset me and I was hoping to get some feedback on the subject and only got one response. THIS IS A BIG DEAL!!! They don't even have to tell you its happening. You could just go to check your bank balance online one day and it will all be gone. Go outside to find your car repoed. They'll give you a reason when they see fit. I'm kinda scared to even talk about it online. These are serious and trying times we are in these days.
on a lighter note...I can't wait to see you in Boulder in a couple of weeks! WOOOOOHOOOO!
haha:)

Re: Bassnectar on CNN!!!! Larry King Live!??
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 8:57 AMThey've arrested one of the producers of "Loose Change-" a documentary that shows the link between 9/11 and the U.S. Government. Apparently the warrant was for "deserting the military" but I'm sure it's more than that. It's really hard to find *any* news about it, but I dug this up on the Ron Paul website of all places:
www.immigrationwatchdog.com/
What interests me is the quote at the bottom by Paul Craig Roberts, a Reagen Era Republican: “Americans think their danger is terrorists. They don’t understand the terrorists cannot take away habeas corpus, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution. … The terrorists are not anything like the threat that we face to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution from our own government in the name of fighting terrorism. Americans just aren’t able to perceive that.”
And still, not a whisper of this story on the mainstream news. I've written to all sorts of media outlets DEMANDING a report on this executive order, but all I hear is silence. This is NOT RIGHT. Keep on writing those letters, let them know that we demand this story gets heard!!!

Thu, July 26, 2007 - 3:47 PMI was flipping channels the other day, and randomly stopped on Cspan. A voice announced that Cheney would be taking over the postion of president for Bush for 7 hours while Bush went through a colonoscopy. I thought to myself, "oh boy, what's going on?" Just curious if Cheney is the one who actually pushed this through? -
-
Re: Bassnectar on CNN!!!! Larry King Live!??
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 4:40 PMNo...the colonoscopy came after this craziness was pushed through. So, its all Bushie.
I used to be a recovery room nurse, often giving anesthesia before this very procedure.
We used to call one of the drugs "truth serum", cuz once it took effect...people at times spilled their most intimate secrets.
Believe me....if I were his nurse that day, I sure would've known what questions to ask him besides "when was the last time you ate or drank something".

Re: Bassnectar on CNN!!!! Larry King Live!??
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 4:50 PMMy Mom just sent me this:
20/07/2007 13:58 WASHINGTON, July 20
(RIA Novosti) - A former Reagan official has issued a public warning that the Bush administration is preparing to orchestrate a staged
terrorist attack in the United States, transform the country into a dictatorship and launch a war with Iran within a year.
Paul Craig Roberts, a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, blasted Thursday a new Executive Order, released July 17, allowing the
White House to seize the assets of anyone who interferes with its Iraq policies and giving the government expanded police powers to exercise control in the country.
Roberts, who spoke on the Thom Hartmann radio program, said: "When Bush exercises this authority [under the new Executive Order], there's no check to it. So it really is a form of total, absolute, one-man rule."
"The American people don't really understand the danger that they face," Roberts said, adding that the so-called neoconservatives intended to use a renewal of the fight against terrorism to rally the American people around the fading Republican Party.
Old-line Republicans like Roberts have become increasingly disenchanted with the neoconservative politics of the Bush administration, which they see as a betrayal of fundamental conservative values.
According to a July 9-11 survey by Ipsos, an international public opinion research company, President Bush and the Republicans can claim a mere 31 percent approval rating for their handling of the Iraq war and 38 percent for their foreign policy in general, including terrorism. "The administration figures themselves and prominent Republican propagandists ... are preparing us for another 9/11 event or series of events," he said. "You have to count on the fact that if al Qaeda is not going to do it, it is going to be orchestrated."
Roberts suggested that in the absence of a massive popular outcry, only the federal bureaucracy and perhaps the military could put constraints on Bush's current drive for a fully-fledged dictatorship.
"They may have had enough. They may not go along with it," he said.
The radio interview was a follow-up to Robert's latest column, in which he warned that "unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the U.S. could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran."
Roberts, who has been dubbed the "Father of Reaganomics" and has recently gained popularity for his strong opposition to the Bush administration and the Iraq War, regularly contributes articles to Creators Syndicate, an independent distributor of comic strips and syndicated columns for daily newspapers other articles

Re: Bassnectar on CNN!!!! Larry King Live!??
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 8:21 PMThis is something I have been saying might happen since he got re-elected. He stole the election twice. I would venture to say the majority of the U.S. is obviously going to vote democratic this time. But, we're in the middle of a "war". As long as they keep the war going through the end of his term, they will have a reason to give of why they should remain in power.
What's going to stop the repubs from saying "nah, we're just going to keep going" Nothing has stopped anything they have wanted to do in the last 7 years.

Fri, July 27, 2007 - 2:11 PMi would just like to add, that when i post things like this, it is intended to INSPIRE passion, CATALYZE critical thought and research and participation, and EMPOWER people into deeper action.
:)
although it is easy to see all this for merely as bleak as it is,
remember that things always swing in and out. In only 100 years, we have seen multiple horrendous wars, genocides, scandals, and even domestically we have seen riots, depressions, laws and policies like the Espionage Act, the Japanese/American concentration camps, MaCarthy-ism and his fucking Red Scare....
its all very similar. and its all very VERY possible to resist, and to change.
it has happened before.
we will never erradicate evil, and bring world peace. Nature is a perfect balance of dark, light, evil, good. and really there is no goood or bad, only perspective.
And we maintain that perfect balance by representing aloud how we feel. So while CHeney is busy working on one end, we are on the other end. And nobody will win, or loose, we will just do our part to contribute to the balance.
it is a beautiful thing, i hope you all feel CHARGED AND REARING TO RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT.
:)
again, have a look at what happened 90 years ago here in America:
The Espionage Act of 1917 was a United States federal law passed shortly after entering World War I, on June 15, 1917, which made it a crime for a person to convey information with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the armed forces of the United States or to promote the success of its enemies. It was punishable by a maximum $USD 10,000 fine ($169,517.90 in today's dollars) and 20 years in prison. The legislation was passed at the urging of President Woodrow Wilson, who feared any widespread dissent in time of war, thinking that it constituted a real threat to an American victory.

Re: Bassnectar on CNN!!!! Larry King Live!??
Fri, July 27, 2007 - 2:20 PMthat said, im curious how the Espionage Act was countered and repealed? maybe the answer for us lies there.
i also think there should be the stiffest of punishments for even ATTEMPTING to pass legislation that is unconstitutional. Much less passing it. It should be on the legislator to take FULL responsibility in advance (out of reverence for the constitution and fellow humans) and to pay the price if and when it is deemed unconstitutional.
In this case, Bu$h would be arrested, fined, charged and jailed (long overdue) for having the violent audacity to over-throw the constitution as he has un-deniably done.
it should all be on him.
And this mentality should overlap into other things.
They should be charged, and sued for the cost of the war, for the mismanaging of contracts (Halliburton should go bankrupt paying this all back), CHeney should be jailed for a long list of crimes, he should be interrogated immediately about his secret energy task force, and everything since the Nixon administration.
:)
it feels good to think, because it all makes so much sense.

Re: is not rage what kills light?
Fri, July 27, 2007 - 10:44 PMthat fire has been with me for a long, long time.
I think it started when I was 7 years old, durring revolution in Iran
in the middle of the night trying to sleep, while there were gun shots and other noises
out side the window. Wondering if my parents where coming home that night or they
were gonna get killed and that I had to be with out them forever and take care of me
and my younger brother

I hated my mom for that and politics. As a child, I didn't understand that she was fighting

only perspective , the i likes this. yes and Awareness is our destiny. the whirled is being shaken as a mason jar of solvents stripping away tthe phat of the matter leaving one with an extracted solution, a crystal.
Weve done this many times before, and Good always winz, and along this way we learn how to communicate with our self really. by breaking down the barriers of seperation thru our lifestlyles we begin to see how everything has consciousness. many different frequencies of it and the coolest part for me on this trip is relating with the plant spirits, as well as the machines. If we are allies with plants and machines we can influence their lives and really connect with the hometeam. The fedguys have big guns yes but we have big hearts and strong brains that can aid our cooperation with plants and machines. Are they good friends with their guns and food?? Really, by machines i mean computers, but remember "maximum overdrive"? same sorta strand of thought..... The same stuff that makes us go, makes the machine go on a physical level, could it be that were related and our spiritual motion is of the same inspiration?. So back to my point , empower ourself with good nutrition, which is balm plantz , a garden is crucial cuz thats where u communicate most with your plantfuelmeds. Then same with the comp, be nice to it :) and know that It cognizes you as a master or an apprentice. Ultimately just paying more attention will drive you wild and to be truly wild is to be set free. The churning of the crystalline lands cape will leave us in threads, as a thread of a once woven quilt we will have a need to remember who we always are. from this perspective we are the weavers, da dreamers ,and the dream..... thanks ill be here allnight:) -

Re: is not rage what kills light?
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 8:47 PMJeffrey, that was a brief bit of madcap awesome shaman-osophy.
A big part of me is called to work on the structure of things and help build the new U.N where we will be prosecuting Cheney and many others. But an almost equally big part of me wants to come to Hawaii and grow and sing my spirit tribe to life, as you seem to be already attempting or doing.
Maybe I can do both, in the long scope of my essence's time round these parts.

Re: is not rage what kills light?
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 9:24 PMThey have the bomb.
They want to use it. As does the other side of the fundamentalist pendulum. It seems like a race against time at this time. The pundits and experts now say it's not a matter or if, but when. Fuck that.
Nuclear showdown seems to be where much of this leading-so they want us to believe, with the rattling of sabers getting louder and louder against our friends in Iran.
Christian vs Muslim. So they want us to believe. Bleh. Hasn't America somehow proven that all faiths, creeds, and ethnicities can get along to a certain extent?? We've got a ways to go, sure. Racism and classism is alive and well in America, but still...we have not done all that bad compared to where we were as a nation just 100 years ago. I guess maybe the jury is still out...maybe, but I think we've made it this far so hell yeah, we've made it and we should NEVER let them take it from us.
We simply cannot let these madmen unleash that kind of madness.
Balance is good. Nuclear bombs=bad, bad, bad...and still very much a part of Our reality. -

******* whoah. let's get back on topic for a second.
www.whitehouse.gov/news/rel...17-3.html
"...all property and interests in property of the following persons, that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States, or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of United States persons, are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in: <b>any person</b> determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense,
(i) to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing, an act or acts of violence that have the purpose or effect of:
...(B) undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people...
...Sec. 5. For those persons whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order who might have a constitutional presence in the United States, I find that, because of the ability to transfer funds or other assets instantaneously, prior notice to such persons of measures to be taken pursuant to this order would render these measures ineffectual. I therefore determine that for these measures to be effective in addressing the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303 and expanded in Executive Order 13315, there need be no prior notice of a listing or determination made pursuant to section 1(a) of this order."
now, the language sounds like this is protecting citizens from all kinds of spies and terrorism and evil plotting, but wait - what exactly is this referring to under all that legalese?
FYI: "the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303" = www.whitehouse.gov/news/rel...2-15.html
"I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, find that the threat of attachment or other judicial process against the Development Fund for Iraq, Iraqi petroleum and petroleum products, and interests therein, and proceeds, obligations, or any financial instruments of any nature whatsoever arising from or related to the sale or marketing thereof, and interests therein, obstructs the orderly reconstruction of Iraq, the restoration and maintenance of peace and security in the country, and the development of political, administrative, and economic institutions in Iraq. This situation constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.
I hereby order:
Section 1. Unless licensed or otherwise authorized pursuant to this order, any attachment, judgment, decree, lien, execution, garnishment, or other judicial process is prohibited, and shall be deemed null and void, with respect to the following:
(a) the Development Fund for Iraq, and
(b) all Iraqi petroleum and petroleum products, and interests therein, and proceeds, obligations, or any financial instruments of any nature whatsoever arising from or related to the sale or marketing thereof, and interests therein, in which any foreign country or a national thereof has any interest, that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States, or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of United States persons."
source: www.whitehouse.gov/news/rel...2-15.html
let me rephrase: ANY US CITIZEN thought to be "UNDERMINING" (my, that word is vague) the US protection of PETROLEUM PRODUCTS in Iraq is now subject to having all of their assets and property instantly frozen without warning.
did i get that right? someone please tell me i'm wrong. -

Re: is not rage what kills light?
Wed, August 1, 2007 - 1:12 PMi wish i could find a good solid interpretation of wtf is going on.
my favorite brief commentary and analysis on 13303 says its mostly about protecting big oil from having to be responsible in any way whatsoever:
www.casi.org.uk/discuss/20...g03771.html
if that is indeed true, i'd say that july 17th's EO simply makes reference to anyone who is impeding big oil's mass raping of iraq's oil field's, its resulting disregard for environmental standards, its humanitarian abuses (i don't want to know how many iraqi "slaves" private companies have over there), etc may be pursued by the US gov't and have the treasury dept seize their assets.
this doesn't seem to be limited to anyone working against the oil companies. seems like anyone who is moving on bush's and the DoD's agenda is exempt from a whole lot of humanitarian, environmental, etc laws set forth by the US and the UN (i'm sure nobody is really surprised by this). so don't go standing up for anything that they might consider supporting the insurgency. i think protesting the war probably (but then who really knows) fall into this category, but investigating, researching, protesting and especially financially supporting the victims of US military and DoD's war crime atrocities (gitmo, abu ghraib, cia secret prisons, raping and pillaging in iraqi towns and whatever else gets swept under the rug) will probably lead to some folks getting their assets frozen.
some thoughts by the aclu:
www.aclu.org/natsec/warp...0070727.html
and remember, they'll test this shit out first on some small name muslim guy who's 3rd cousin is taliban and nobody will give a shit, then they'll work their way up to some small nonprofit run by some minority group, and after a couple of years, they'll find a way to work their way up to the white middle class after all the precedents have been set and have been ignored by all us privileged folks.

Re: is not rage what kills light?
Wed, August 1, 2007 - 5:32 PMthis is making me nuts
the petroleum part.
i am also stirred by the rage thing... i have a lot toshare on that, in the vein that YES rage and light can coexist.
we are not going to save the world by merely praying, and setting good intentions (in the produce isle of WHole Foods), and dancing (to bassnectar at earthdance), and meditating, and enjoying ourselves and being happy and enjoying all the bounty that god gave us.
we are not going to save the world at all... but hopefully we can propagate a balance, and cast a vote for compassion, and empathy, and fairness, and peace and justice

A call to action. 'Bout time. Kisskissbangtwang.
These charmed lives we live are merely a smokescreen to what's really haunting us. Perhaps?

Re: is not rage what kills light?
Sun, August 5, 2007 - 2:45 PM.lady.leblanc. you've once again hit the proverbial nail on the head.
something i learned a few years ago that made sense of this whole iraq war:
since the '70s, the US dollar has had no backing by gold. instead, when the dollar was unhitched from the gold standard, some nixon era thug like kissinger made a deal with OPEC that it would back saudi oil interests with US guns if the partners of OPEC agreed to sell oil strictly on the dollar. this became known as the Petrodollar and it has been the single strongest factor keeping debt ridden US currency from collapsing.
in 2000 saddam hussein and hugo chavez had a plan to undermine US imperialism: sell iraqi and venezuelan oil on the euro instead of the dollar. the euro had been steadily gaining in stability and was finally considered a strong enough currency to use as a standard on the global market. saddam hussein was the first to begin selling on the euro. we saw what happened to him. the first executive order passed when the US took control of baghdad was to cease the selling of iraqi oil on the euro and resume selling it on the US dollar.
chavez has had his own share of trials and tribulations, not the least of which was the oil industry sponsored coup that forced him out of office until the venezeulan people had a counter-coup and reinstated him into office.
the latest nation to begin selling oil on the euro is iran. as soon as they announced their "oil bourse" the war drums began beating louder and louder about iran's alleged threat.
yes, iraq, iran and venezeula pose(d) a threat to the united states, but it was not so much a terrorist threat as an economic threat.
the financiers behind this war don't care how many innocents die. what matters most to them is that the dollar does not collapse.
for some of the grimmer perspectives on this war, i suggest the recent movie "iraq for sale." for info on the petrodollar, google the word petrodollar or read the book titled "petrodollar warfare."
in the eyes of the masters of war, it is a far graver crime to undermine the solvency of the dollar than it is to slaughter innocents. any threat to the oil is a threat to the stability of the dollar and, therefore, perceived as the gravest threat of all.
until we as a nation can see our way out of the trap that our currency binds us to, i'm afraid we are going to be beholden to decisions made by bankers and arms dealers and international terror financiers.
i think ron paul may be onto something when he says that the best way out of this trap is to abolish the federal reserve and return a federally issued dollar to the gold standard. as it stands, we have a federal reserve note that is produced by private banks at interest that generates debt (from the government to the banks) that we, the citizens, owe, and this debt is propped up in such a manner that we continually work to keep it afloat in spite of the suffering that is generated in the name of keeping it strong.
one solution that has been proposed is the so called liberty dollars. google liberty dollars for more info.
other solutions are simply to barter as much as possible, make almost no money and refuse to pay federal income taxes.
resistance to war taxes isn't much on an individual level, but it's certainly more effective than carrying picket signs or petitioning the democrats, who are beholden to the same arms industry lobbies for reelection, to change policy.
