I (Arutyun Pashayan) aka. Haroot aka DjMT www.djmtheory.com (Spincycle Crew Los Angeles, representing Dj Dynamix and Dj War), challenged Mr. Bassnectar (Aka Lorin) to a Battle on the decks. I don't mind if he wussies out on the tables and uses cd decks, or his computer as usual. Of course, I was fixing bikes with JuracidBikes camped at Nexus when I caught him scram out on his fans after his cliche mashup set. His excuse was "I'm too tired". Personally, I have no excuses when I sleep for 4 hours at most at 2:00 and A or when I don't even get sleep at all I can still beat juggle, scratch, and beatmatch mashup sets in my sleep, Cough Lorin. Oh also, Burning Man is a social experiment, Art Festival, Music Festival, Tibetan Prayer and Remembrance of ones who have Passed away, you asshole its not just a PARTY, go read some books.

With that attitude, you've already lost.

Put yourself in that position. Somebody just walks up to you right after a gig and demands a battle, right now? That's only a couple of steps away in my book from the DJ who walks up to your tables and says, "Can I spin?"

Either way, getting all contemptuous about it isn't going to do anybody any good - least of all, you.

Wow, your message is very very self-righteous and full of judgments. I guess it is a good way to get attention though, posting a whiny attack on Bassnectar's own thread.

Good luck with your negativity man, I'm sure it'll serve you just fine.
    • Although I want you to feel respected, despite your obvious lack of any, I must ask the question:
      What the flippin' nasty fishballs?
      Wow, what silly-erm-stupidness.
What kind of person do you have to be to carry such a ridiculous little grudge over someone being tired or not wanting to battle you? For this long?
I hope in the near future that you find something better to do than sit on your bum and whine.

Unbundle your undies, and go pick on someone who ACTUALLY deserves it, not Lorin, because he flippin' DOES NOT!

      • this thread doesn't even deserve any attention, really.....

besides the fukn fakt that lolo was tired....

hello....when an artist represents himself to the audience, there's usually some concern in how that's going to be presented. even in a dj context, battles are usually [and that's a general adjective] done between friends, collaborators, co-creators. they even PRACTICE together....

c'mon dude, do you really think that lorin is going to invite an unrehearsed trainwreck-prone battle set?

        be real.....

Oh my...I honestly just spent fifteen minutes typing a savage onslaught against this person, only to remember that we all have much better things to do with our time.

    Don't feed the trolls =D

Don't type or reply if you're an idiot. Because everyon honorable person knows when you challenge someone, they get to pick the place and time, duh! Idiots. Have fun supporting idiots and talking shit about someone who care about the Planet.

Don't worry - I'm not an idiot. Could do some correction of your English if you're not convinced. Because I find grammar nazism a little gauche, I'll save everyone the trouble.

Perhaps your opponent knew whatever tenants of honor to which you refer, and the subtle connotation of your rejection meant that his answer was actually "Sometime after you've dealt with your enormous ego." Or maybe since such a hot shit DJ would know a thing or two about promotion and networking - and could therefore set up such a vitally important battle maybe a little bit ahead of time - he presumed that your walk-up challenge was just the squawking of a fledgling whose talent doesn't yet speak for itself.

I like your mix, by the way. And I can understand that you feel picked on for being a person who cares - it's tough being a DJ with standards. I used to lack respect for laptop DJs, too. But then I learned a few lessons...

No offense, but this is my third language. I was born in Armenia when it was a USSR satellite. I learned Armenian, then Russian, then English and then French in high school, so excuse my diction. But in reality, it was the anger and quick sloppy typing that diminished my grammar. They're DJ's, who play other people's music. They're musicans like Lorin (bassnectar) who play their own music, and they're are turntablists who are musicans using a turntable as an instrument. Thats the difference, no offense. All i really want is some time to play for the crowd thats all. I'm just angry because I havn't been given the proper chances by jealousy and envy creating roadblocks for me. I am not selfish. I am buddhist. I do not play for myself unless I'm playing alone, I play for everyone except myself. I play for the vibe. I'm working on a sick house mix i'll drop up there this weekend.

OK Haroot, lets put this shit to rest.

I can start by saying that if your attempt to get respect and gigs was to challenge a guy you don't know (possibly) out of the blue in a dj battle, you went for the wrong person. Why did you pick him? His popularity? Style? Have you ever heard of him doing a DJ battle, or even a versus set? Could you have been hitting up the wrong musician for that?

Had you looked into it, you probably would have realized he was the wrong person to ask. I have been a fan for about 7 years and have been promoting Bassnectar shows in my area for about 5-6 years. NEVER has he ever done a battle or a versus set, and believe me I TRIED to make it happen. If its not well-rehearsed it can be a trainwreck, or the vibe of the set is off since you get 2 people switching tracks every 1,2,3,4,5, etc songs. While you may think he's a pussy or a cheater or whatever, he ALWAYS wants to put on the best performance possible for his fans in the sense of music, sound quality, lighting, vibe etc.

Anyone who has worked with him closely can attest to this.

So just think about what you say and the dimensions of such. This isn't a sportsball game......

Lorin and Sayr at Sea of Dreams New Years Eve that one year I can't quite remember was cool...I think that's the only time I've ever seen Lorin ever share a mixer.

Dude, Haroot. You got it all wrong. I'm sorry, but put it back in the bag. What the hell are you trying to prove? That you're like that guy who burned down the Man last year on the Playa, ie, someone desperately in need of attention because your Muse escapes you simply due to an over inflated sense of self. Take a breath, step back, and realize that even if you have skills like Mozart, a dicky attitude will get you where, esp since you are who??? Where do you play? Do you know what the circle of fifths is? Have you ever been to a Turkish prison? Seriously, are you just fucking with us bro cuz that shit is funny. Thanks for the inspiration. I love good satire and non-sequitur. Speaking of which.

Hey, how about this...is it cool if I come to your happy hour set at the place I read about in Automobile Association of America that one time I I was at band camp. You're the headliner right? Do you still have that residency? I hear you lay it down thick. Anyhow, I'm gonna own that mic and your crowd while I do my own freestyle Tuvan throat interpretation of Milton's "Paradise Lost" then segue into an Esperanto scat of James Joyce's "Finnegan's Wake"-in its entirety, all the while playing Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" on the zither . Dude, it will rock sox. I just hope your following subleted their homes cuz I tell ya, doing the whole live freestyle mc audio books thing really takes a dedicated crowd to sit through my interpretation of those great classics. I've got it down it down to about three weeks now, but you're down with the bittorrent and downloaded mad mp3's, right? I think that's stipulated in my ride, but, dude, I'm a little worried, though, cuz your agent told me that your ISP caught on to your port forwarding and shut you down so you're back on the 28k dialup and still have about 3 hours of original tunes of your own to download from that one bittorent site. Man, that shit might not let you get that your acetate test pressing off to the presses in for our big opening extravaganza. I sure hope you get it sorted asap, cuz man I tell ya, I really need to start getting a return on investment on all those intensive Esperanto courses I invested in at the Sally Strothers Institute of Linguistics. My phone psychic told me there was so much to be had in "Universal Communication", so why not Esperanto?? Personally, I think Esperanto is just another form of pre-diluvian Atlantean shorthand. Nonetheless, Joyce transposed into it over some gabber or hardcore really takes the rave to the next level. I'm really stoked we're gonna get to collaborate during your set after all those dues and well thought-out intentions you've put into your set. We're gonna get all Starsky and Hutch up in the partay!! YEYA! And then we be rocking it out like Fred Flintsone, we're gonna do a Jane Fonda Workout interpretive dance of the Techno Viking stomp. Folks are gonna be losing their shit.l I just hope they came gripped with a steady supply of RaveDiapers cuz folks are gonna be shitting their pants at the big dance.

Oh btw, I'm HUGE in Liechtenstein and Turkmenistan. Check me out. You know you wanna. Don't wuss out, bro, cuz here in CrazyTown, safety's third.

                  IT'S ALL HAPPENING!!!

I think I was there for that. Was that the time he blew some of Neptune's speakers? DOH! That was one time Neptune forgot to bring the limiter...Infinite Kaos...that place was neato. Ahh, the good ole days...and all of our lovely underground warehouses that have all but vanished. Wouldn't it be cool if SF let us have some sort dance-warehouse zone, almost like a theme park...with a miniature golf course, pony rides, and indoor waterslides ( indoor cuz it's cold in SF more than it aint). Yeah, that's prolly a stretch, but we really need to convince SF to let has some part of a park or outdoor venue specifically for renegade type events, one where you don't need a permit or maybe if you did, you could get one online 24/7...Maybe then we could set up the Bassnectar/DjMT octagon cage match dj battle. 2 MEN ENTER-1 MAN LEAVEs!!

Lorin vs Brother at Infinite Kaos sounds like at least 2002 (if not earlier) if not the later 2004 that I also experienced! Both CLASSIC! Anyone able to resurrect when?

uhhhh... chris sia aka IKarus....gawddamn y'all makin me feel old referring to IK as "the dayz....."

okay, i actually dug some old flyers out of my scrappy for this one. the party that lolo blew out half the room cuz neppy forgot to bring the limiter was HIGH-larious cuz it was billed as "FREQ NASTY" and then darren couldn't make it... so i think we all called it the "freqless freq party..." this was dec 7 '02... six years ago...ok...none of us has actually replaced all our dna yet, so don't be grabbin your ravedepends just yet...

i think you have to ask adam on this one....but i believe the "freqless freq party" gave birth to "get freaky" cuz i think when adam rebooked darren it was the first party at 1015 [besides the ascension parties and a few other strays] that we took over ira's club for the night....

i'm 99.9% positive that the lo vs bro set was after this, in 2003, and not into 2004, as 2003 was ik's last yr on the playa together, when i defected to el circo....

rave historians beg to differ? c'mon...y'all know that history's written by the victors!!!!!

I'm more of a fan of the original: "Rave Diaper". It gives the product a more youthful, active appeal. "Raverdepends" has a more geriatric ring to them and tend to chafe a bit more. It's the fit that makes the fashion.

I remember standing next to 'Tune at the moment where he realized shit was indeed blown. He took it like a champ. Ironically, a couple of days I going back in my head and trying to figure out when the first Get Freaky was...

No idea on the Alex Grey trivia...hmm...

thanks for the trip down raver lane.

just so you know, we are not permitted by the bassnectar mods to post things like this here. i tried to promote a party which would benefit the arts and the dub step community and received this message:

We ask that you please refrain from posting events in the "topics" section of the Bassnecar tribe.

Please understand that we are trying to keep the content on this tribe very relevant. If everyone starts posting their events then the content gets diluted, and less relevant to bassnectar. There are so many places to post on tribe. If you want to post on bassnectar tribe, we ask that you please restrict your posts to bassnectar and/or political related posts only. Please feel free to hit the events section, but not the discussion.

the main artist receiving the benefit of the fundraiser i tried to promote is one of Lorin's friends, and all the music was dub step, so i thought it would be relevant, but it was not. it is understandable that you would want to reach out to other people who love dubstep so they could enjoy the music we all love, but that is not the case here. you are expected to list this in the 'events' part of this tribe, where no one will ever read about it..

good luck with your event! i hope to be there.
and i would have never known about it if you hadn't listed it here, so thanks for that.
